Le Pressoir de la Maison d'Irène

The commune of Mardié has an astonishing and monumental 18th century wine press in a building that is now a commune. It is the only survivor, in this part of the Loire Valley of Orléans, of the wooden wheel and screw presses.

Installed in an old winegrower's house (the "Maison d'Irène"), in the heart of the village, a stone's throw from the church, it is a witness to the viticulture that reached its peak in the Orléans Valley between 1750 and 1850. Recently restored (summer 2013), it can be seen during the opening hours of the library (installed in the adjoining house), on the occasion of art exhibitions organised in the barn that houses it, or by reservation for groups (contact the reception of the town hall).
