Eglise Saint Etienne
In this charming village, make a detour to the Church of St. Stephen, nicknamed the cathedral of Sologne.
The church of Saint Etienne de Coullons, nicknamed "the Cathedral of Sologne" is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in the Giennois. Only a part of the nave, the bell tower and the door of Saint Jean resisted the fire. Following the fire, the choir was built as well as the sanctuary and the two side chapels. The work was completed in 1549. The church has survived through time despite the wars and the Terror of 1794. An anecdote tells that Abbé Clément, the parish priest, sawed off the heads of the statues himself and gave the keys to the mayor in order to avoid ransacking. In 1861, the church was enlarged to its present size.
