Eglise Saint-Germain

When one enters the church, one is dazzled by the richness and luminosity of the fresco paintings that cover the walls and vaults of the sanctuary: geometric motifs, flowers, leaves, foliage, stars, monograms, medallions, trompe l'oeil hangings. This abundant decoration, mainly done with stencils, is the work of Father Joseph Carante, parish priest of Huêtre between 1865 and 1870, who wanted, by tackling the task himself, to restore colour to his church, which was then in a very sad state.

Jacques Viard, an artist specialising in the restoration of 19th century religious heritage, worked for months in 2014 to restore the freshness and delicacy of the motifs and colours.
